Sandnes Clarinet Choir was founded by its conductor Halvor Lunde in 1986. Most members have studied the clarinet or are still attending Halvor's clarinet lessons.

The locations of Sandnes School of Music, Drama and Art is the choir's base. During the last twenty years the choir has developed to become a respectable ensemble, and today the choir, with reference to number of musicians, is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

The main idea in Halvor's practise as a teacher through many years is to let the youngest clarinettists experience an atmosphere of confidence among the members of the choir. The basis of Halvor's methods is that each pupil is respected, no matter level. Further, the result is that the adolescent and grown up clarinettists similarly practise Halvor's understanding of the importance of confident young members.

The Clarinet Choir's ambition is to advance and increase in repertoire and collaborate with respected composers and soloists. The results are first performance compositions, arranged compositions and tours, which, further, contribute to an increase in the choir's repertoire and activities.

The clarinettists in Sandnes Clarinet Choir carry through one comprehensive concert a year and have only three or four gatherings each year. Through the years we have cooperated with several respected soloists playing different instruments. In 2002 the choir was on tour to Kristiansand and Oslo, where NRK recorded one of the concerts in Kulturkirken Jakob.

In June 2006 the choir´s first CD, Windyvision, was published. The soloists are Cyrille Mercadier and Laurent Ben Slimane. 

The second CD, Reeds in the Wind, was published in December 2008. The soloists are Ingrid Kjosavik, Ragnhild Tu, Laurent Ben Slimane and Ebbe Sivertsen.

The clarinet choir has concerts continually, usually in June and/or December. The concert in Sola Kulturhus summer 2009 was repeated at Sandnes Brygge the following autumn, with great enthusiasm and response. The soul- and pop repertoire with Anh Vuh and Bjarte Lending, arranged for clarinet choir and soloists by Arild Mjaaland, was a sincere and hearty meeting for everyone.  

Fortunately, the Clarinet Choir has received sponsorships and support from, among others, Buffet Crampon, Total, Gaz de France, Sandnes kommune and Ivar Skei musikkhandel.
